Time, Music and Peace as the Leading Theme of the 2021 Spasskaya Tower Festival

Go back

Time, Music and Peace will be the leading theme of the Fourteenth Spasskaya Tower International Military Music Festival that will unfold on Moscow’s Red Square from August 27 to September 5 in a COVID free format.

COVID-19 pandemics has literally destroyed the everyday life of people all over the world bringing along a lot of bad and negative stuff. However it has also made us revise a lot of things and have a fresh look at such basic values as personal health and security, safety of our family and loved ones, friendship and freedom of movement, etc.

“Only time can make amends for the hard period we’ve gone through putting forward the unique ability of people to unite in a single impulse to rise and fight against a common global threat. This ability is known as positivity. As a universal language tool capable of uniting people of all ages, nationalities and religions, music is the time’s main aid”, noted Major General Timofey Mayakin, Music Director of the Festival, Head of the Military Band Service of the Russian Armed Forces — Chief Military Conductor.

This year the emblem of the Festival will feature a dove, the world’s established symbol of peace, proclaiming that peace, freedom and rebirth will eventually come. Dove as a symbol of purity, love, serenity, freedom, hope and peace may be come across in the ancient, Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Buddha traditions.

As its official music composition, the Fourteenth Spasskaya Tower Festival will feature 'Glory to the Motherland' parade march created in 1944 by General Semyon Chernetskiy, military conductor, composer and founder of the first Soviet military bands. The march was released in 1945 in the course of the Potsdam Conference in Germany.
