The International Scottish Highland Dance Team

The International Scottish Highland Dance Team was created ad hoc by choreographer Maria Zotko for performing at the Spasskaya Tower Festival together with the Celtic Pipes and Drums.

50 dancers from Russia, Scotland, the Netherlands, Canada and South Africa will perform in Red Square. All of them have performed at the most prestigious international military tattoos in Edinburgh (Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo), Basel (Basel Tattoo), Halifax (Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo) and many others.

Choreographer Maria Zotko

Maria began learning Scottish dancing in Moscow in 2005 and then studied with British, Canadian and Austrian teachers. In 2010 she was the first Russian dancer to pass the professional exams at the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing and Kindred Arts, after the preparation course with Rhona Lawrence, vice-president of the UKA, and one of the leading teachers of the Scottish Highland dances in the world.

In 2009 Maria defended her graduation «Scottish dances: practice of ethnographic studies» at the Faculty of History of the Moscow State University.

Maria gives master-classes and open lessons of Highland dancing in Russia and CIS countries and has already participated several times in the Spasskaya Tower Festival as choreographer, dancer and leader of the Scottish Dancing groups.
