Tri-Services Band

India is a country of rich heritage, golden traditions and music is one of the vital components of it. From the earliest times, «Martial Music» has been the accompaniment to feats of arms, acting as a means of installing ardour and energy amongst soldiers. Its chief purpose is to strengthen the morale of soldiers and maintain order and discipline among them. The music has been soul-stirring support to the men of arms, acting as a catalyst of exciting passion and inspiring them to go forth and conquer. Military bands enliven the spirit, strengthen the mood and help in promoting pride and camaraderie. Military Band music also acts as adjunct to ceremonial, social and recreational activities and regulates daily military activities, through a system of musical signals and commands.

The Military Band consists of musicians from Indian Army, Navy and Air Force. The composition of instruments is balanced and includes brass, woodwind, percussion and string instruments. This makes the Band capable of playing a wide ranging repertoire which includes stirring martial music, arrangements of Indian and Western Classical and other forms of contemporary popular and folk music. There has been gradual progression in types of music played by the Band, from the delightful martial music, to include symphonies, overtures, concerts and other forms of contemporary music including Indian Classical.

The Band has not only been the cynosure of eyes during the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi every year, it has repeatedly won accolades both in India and abroad. The Indian military Band has performed worldwide, notably mentions are Swedish Military Tattoo, International Fleet Review in Australia, Berlin Air Show, Independence Day Celebrations at Dhaka, International Military Music Festival, France, Queen’s Coronation in UK, Bicentenary Celebrations of the Statue of Liberty and Australian Bicentennial Celebration.
