The Cadet Band of the Military Institute Gave a Concert in Victory Park

Go back

This Saturday, May 26, Victory Park welcomed a concert performed by the Cadet Band of the Military Institute (of Military Conductors) of the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

It’s been the second performance of the “Military Bands in the Parks” program which is being carried out in the capital within 2018 summer season. It was organized by the International Military Music Festival “Spasskaya Tower” Directorate sponsored by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and Government of Moscow.

The music feast for the residents and guests of the capital unfolded in front of the Flower Clock on Poklonnaya Hill. The concert began at 3 p.m. with the performance of the drummers’ band headed by Colonel Grigoriy Sokolov.

The concert continued with the performance of the Cadet Band of the Military Institute (of Military Conductors) of the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation directed by the Head of the Band, Professor and Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Colonel Mikhail Trunov. The group performed favorite compositions of many generations. On hearing the first chords admirers of wind music started to fill in the square. Songs “Ya Lublu Teby Jizn” (“Life, I Love You So Much”), “Siniy Platochek” (“Blue Neckerchief”), “Na Bezymyannoi Visote” (“On Unnamed Height”), “Smuglyanka” and others were accompanied by the viewers not only with their applause but also with dances. True dancing flash mob unfolded on the dance floor. The Muscovites and guests of the capital found themselves waltzing along with the participants of the “Moscow’s Longevity” program realized by Cultural Centers of the Department of Culture of the City of Moscow.

All viewers were pleasantly amazed by the performance of the Military University students from the Republic of Angola. The military group called “Smuglyanka” sang the much loved song “Katusha”.

“My grandson has called me today and told that there’s going to be a concert in the park. I want to thank everybody who’s come up with this idea and organized this feast, for this opportunity to go to the park, listen and even sing along these beautiful songs which means remembering the youth and very special personal moments. I’m glad to see that our children and grandchildren listen to these songs and we, the elder ones, have a chance to remember the times when we went to dance in clubs and parks as well as to listen to then popular melodies”, told the resident of the Western district of Moscow pensioner Veronica Efremova.

According to the organizers, one of the main aims of the “Military Bands in the Parks” program is to revive one of the most beautiful Moscow’s traditions — performances of orchestral groups in the city’s parks and gardens. Against cheerful applauses of several hundreds of viewers at the close of the program the song of Eduard Kolmanovsky “Pesnja Ostaetsya s Chelovekom” (“Song Remains with the Man”) was sung. The concert marathon of the “Military Bands in the Parks” program has already acquired its group of admirers. Pensioner Tamara Burlakova who had attended the opening of the concert program in the Alexander Garden purposefully came to Poklonnaya Hill to once again listen to a military band.

“Today I’ve come with my friend to once again listen to the band’s concert — it’s a real feast and present for us all. Look how many people have come to listen to these good and beloved songs about Moscow, love and loyalty”.

We’d like to notice that the Cadet Band of the Military Institute (of Military Directors) of the Military University of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is a permanent participant of the Victory parades on Red Square and the “Spasskaya Tower” Festival. The Band also participates in various international contests and is a frequent guest of different radio and TV programs. Lots of the institute’s graduates have become laureates of international and Russian contests, and groups under their direction frequently perform both in Russia and abroad. The academic staff of the Military Institute consists of highly experienced specialists awarded with honorary titles.

Head of the Band — Professor, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Colonel Mikhail Trunov.

Bandmaster — Captain Maxim Kharkov

The Institute is a unique military education institute that provides higher musical education to military band conductors in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and foreign countries. Its teaching traditions date back to 1935 when a military faculty was founded on the basis of the Moscow State Conservatory.

Next Saturday, June 2, two concerts of the “Military Bands in the Parks” program are going to be held: at 3 p.m. in the Alexander Garden and at 5 p.m. in the Muzeon park.
